Amenities:
Pocahontas State Park is one of Virginia's finest, and it's central location makes it a popluar place to visit. It boasts large campsites, that are well shaded, and well seperated. While it's an older campground, it's hard to tell considering the State of Virginia has done a tremendous job of refurbishing this campground and keep it up to date. The bath houses are relatively new, and very clean, a brand new swimming pool (2003), and all campsite's have water & electric hook-up's. Though most site's are not very level, they are close enough that with a little finesse you'll be as level as you like. There are several pull through site's at the front of the loop (#1-#13 & #27), the rest of them are all back-in sites. Site's 45-46-47 AND 48-49-50 are considered a triple group site each group of three must be rented together. Although they consider three seperate loops, it's hard to distinguish them as such. Additionally, I've been informed that another loop is in the planning stages. There are a number of downed tree's left over, remnants of Hurricane Isabel which blew through the park in 2003. While somewhat unsightly at times, this is good for campers, as the park allows downed wood for fires, and this provides lots of free wood.
