Douthat State Park is one of Virginia's oldest State Parks, one of six that opened on June 15, 1936. Editors of the 1999 Outside Family Vacation Guide, a summer planner, have named Virginia’s very own Douthat State Park one of the nation's 10 best. It's on the National Register of Historic Places and straddles Bath and Allegheny counties. Douthat is nestled in the Allegheny Mountains and features some of Virginia’s most outstanding scenery. In addition, a 50-acre lake offers swimming, boating and seasonal trout fishing.

Camping facilities at the park range from basic tent sites, sites with electric and water hook-up's, to camping cabins. This park also has their own campstore and a Restaurant. There is a large lake, with a swimming beach and a boat launching ramp. They have row boats, paddle boats, and canoe's for rent.

Camping
There are three different campgrounds at the park, each have a different name, but are also listed as loops A, B, & C.

Loop-A is at the northern end of the park and is called Beaver Dam Campground. This loop has electric and water hook-up's, no sewer but there is a dump station there. The sites are well shaded, but very close together, as well as close to the main hiway running through the campground (Va Rt 629).

Loop-B is located in the center, and is named Lakeside Campground. As it's name implies, this loop is located along the lake shore. Several of the sites are lake front, and all have a view of the water. This loop is basic camping, no hook-up's, and the sites are very close together.

Loop-C is at the southern end of the park, and is known as White Oaks Campground. This is the preferred loop at the park. While sites are still a little close together, they are spread out more than at the other two loops. All these sites have electric and water hook-up's too, no sewer but there is a dump station, and a grey water station.

All three loops have rest room facilities with flush toilets and hot showers. There is also a double sink located in the rear of the facilities (outside) for washing dishes.

Hiking & Biking
If your into hiking or mountain biking, this place is loaded with trails. There are 24 different trails covering more than 40 miles. Mountain Biking is allowed on most of the trails, they are not allowed on YCC Trail, Heron Run Trail, or Buck Lick Interpretive Trail.

Fishing & Boating
The 50 acre lake is stocked often (twice per week weather permitting), and they have a "Pay-as-you-go" trout fishing program in place. A valid Virginia fishing license is required in addition to a trout license or daily permit depending on the season. Special seasonal regulations apply at Douthat Lake. Those 16 and older (in-state) or 12 and older (out of state) need a valid Virginia fishing license. In addition, a Virginia Trout license or daily fishing permit is required, depending on the season. There is a daily creel limit of six trout with a seven inch minimum. One pole per person allowed, separate stringers required. Fishing hours are posted at the park.

Boating is limited to electric or non-powered boats only. Both row boats and those equipped with electric trolling motors are available for rent. Also available are canoe's, paddle boats, and hydrobikes.
